Current research concerns the evolution, classification, and biogeography of black flies (Diptera: Simuliidae). Evidence of relationship is derived from cladistic analysis of internal and external structural features, chromosomes, behaviour, and ecology. A long-term research program on caddisflies (Trichoptera) is being developed with special reference to the fauna of Southeast Asia. Present studies include (1) revisions and phylogenetic analyses of plesiotypic simuliine genera, (2) biodiversity surveys in Vietnam and other countries in Indochina, (3) a comprehensive book on the black flies of North America.
