Information

General

The information here is ONLY for students who registered prior to September 2008 in the old graduate programs in Plant and Microbial Biology or Zoology.  Many of these students have already switched into the new EEB graduate programs and those who have not are encouraged to do so. There is absolutely no disadvantage to switching.  Funding commitments of the ZOO and PMB programs will be honoured if you switch – i.e. funding will be provided for the first two years of the MSc as well as the first five or six years of the PhD for entry from an MSc or BSc respectively.  In all other respects students and their committees can choose to follow either the old or new program regulations or some combination.  Please consult details of the new MSc and PhD programs.  Differences from the old programs that may be “attractive” include three half-course credits for PhD students entering with an MSc (four such credits for transfers from an MSc or direct entry from a BSc), no MSc to PhD transfer exams but rather a meeting of the supervisory committee, and no departmental PhD exam but only the SGS Final Oral Exam.
